ABA therapy in Aracaju
ABA may be part of an individualized care plan to support communication, participation, independence and skills relevant to everyday life.
What is ABA therapy?
ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. This approach looks at how a person, their environment and the consequences of actions interact to inform learning opportunities. Any clinical plan should take into account the person's history, communication, preferences and needs.
What might a care plan include?
- setting meaningful, functional goals;
- support for communication and participation in activities;
- teaching independence, communication and interaction skills;
- tracking progress to understand which strategies are helpful;
- guidance and collaboration with family members and other professionals.
The aim should not be to standardize behavior or suppress forms of communication. Responsible care respects boundaries, signs of discomfort, dignity and the right to participate in decisions whenever possible.
Assessment comes before planning. The same approach can be adapted in different ways for different people; no single plan works for everyone.
ABA and the multidisciplinary team
When needed, ABA therapy may be coordinated with speech-language therapy, psychology, occupational therapy, psychopedagogy and other disciplines. This coordination connects care goals with everyday situations.
